The Smiley Oracle

Juchu! Mein Fotoaparat funktioniert wieder.

Yay, my camera is working again! To celebrate that fact, I grant you a glimpse at my current project (I am only pretending to be generous, I was only waiting to show it off!). It is called 'the smiley oracle' and is exactly what the name suggests. You ask the book a question, open a random page and get a smiley as an oracle that has to be interpreted. I am still wondering, whether I should include a small instruction booklet or whether it is self explanatory. I am planning to print a small edition and if I keep working at a steady pace I will be finished in 3 weeks. - I'll let you know when I have them all! On the very left in the picture above you can see the very prototype which still has more and slightly smaller pages than the books I am making now. I included it because its slipcase is already printed - which I am also planning for the books in the edition. The orange-yellow books are the first books finished. Just their slipcases and covers still need printing upon. In the front you can see some of the pages that still need to be bound.
Each book consists of 10 signatures of 8 sheets each. That makes 160 handprinted pages in each book (only the right hand side is printed, the left side is left blank). Each has pages in two different colors, but the colors vary. The slipcases have a left out corner so that it is easier to grap the book contained. I first saw such a slipcase at Papieren Avonturen.
Finally here are some of the faces I am usin
g in the books. And now I am off to bake a birthday cake for my dear husband whose birthday is tomorrow - see you soon!

Wow so very cool. Like Billie I love this concept. I've carved some stamps too, but never a series like yours. Have to dig the carving tool :)
Your slipcases are to die for :) Can you tell me the dimensions of the books, they really look very tiny.

Thanks to both of you! That's good to hear.
I was slightly reluctant to decide that I really want to do more than just one - who knows whether anyone wants all the books I will be producing. But it is good to hear that there are some outside who like them :-)

Dymphie: The pages of the books have a size of 5cm x 5cm, so the slipcases are slightly bigger, about 6cm x 6cm x 3cm.
